These Seven People
Only a few hundred people were in the hall when Pearl Jam walked on in Columbus, by the one chronology that describes the night, and Eddie Vedder picked out a small group near the front and said he would play for them. The two chronologies agree on the six songs and differ on the day: the 19th in one, with a ticket to match, and the 18th in the other.

On Tuesday, November 19, 1991, by the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's date, Pearl Jam played Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio, supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers, with the Smashing Pumpkins on the bill. Five Horizons lists the same six songs a day earlier, on 11/18/91, at a room it names Veterans Coliseum, with the Pumpkins alone on its supporting line and no notes. Neither chronology gives an attendance figure; the first says that only a few hundred were present when the band took the stage, and prints what Eddie Vedder said about it.
The show
At Veterans Memorial
The entry before this one, in both listings, is Sunday, November 17, at Rec Hall in State College, Pennsylvania; that night is told in Quite a Sweat. Between that Sunday and Kalamazoo on Wednesday the 20th, each has one Columbus entry and one empty day. The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology has the show on Tuesday the 19th and nothing for the 18th; Five Horizons has it on 11/18/91 and nothing for the 19th.
Two printed documents carry the Tuesday. The tour book for the run, as the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology reproduces it, has Monday the 18th as a day off in Columbus and Tuesday the 19th at a room it prints as Veterans Auditorium. A ticket the same source reproduces prints Belkin and CD101 presenting the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Veterans Memorial, Columbus, on Tuesday, November 19, 1991, at 7:30 PM, a floor seat, and does not name Pearl Jam. Wikipedia's table of the tour, for its part, files Columbus under November 18, as Five Horizons does, with the hall name the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology prints. A plan and a ticket are printed before a night and a table is compiled long after it; none is a record of the night, and the two dates are left standing.
The Performance
The set, the same in both entries, was six songs: "Even Flow," "Once," "Alive," "Deep," "Why Go," and "Porch." "Deep" had last been on a list the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology prints at the Bender Arena in Washington on November 9, and no list it prints for the run had opened with "Even Flow."
What happened in the room is that chronology's alone. When Pearl Jam took the stage, it says, only a few hundred were present in the audience. This seems to have bothered Vedder, the entry goes on, in a reading of its own, and he pointed to a small group near the front and said, "I'll play for these seven people right over here." During "Porch," it says, against the wishes of security, the band brought about 25 people onstage for a mosh.
The Next Step
The next entry in both is Wednesday, November 20, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a show moved from one room to another; it is told in It Simply Has Been Moved.
Recording & sound
What the Record Preserves
The two entries share the city, the six songs in the same order, and the Pumpkins on the bill. They differ on the day and on the room's name, and only the first names the Chili Peppers, tells anything of the night, or reproduces a ticket.
What the record preserves of Columbus is six songs, a Tuesday ticket for Veterans Memorial, and a date its two sources set a day apart. One adds the night itself: a hall with only a few hundred in it when the band walked on, seven people near the front he said he would play for, and about 25 brought up to mosh through "Porch."
