Side Two Begins

· Nachtwerk · Munich

The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology prints Approx. 900 for the Nachtwerk and Five Horizons 900, and the note the two share makes the claim that this is "the only concert where all songs on Ten are played straight through in order". Of the two chronologies, only the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology ends the night with Mike thrashing the drum set.

On Friday, March 13, 1992, Pearl Jam played the Nachtwerk in Munich, Germany, as both documents head the night. The chronology's attendance line reads Approx. 900 and Five Horizons' reads 900, and each is printed here as its document gives it. The chronology names Sun as the opening act, as the day sheet does, and Five Horizons names none and gives the show ninety minutes. The two print one note for the night, nearly word for word, counted here as one source, but for its last sentence, which only the chronology's copy carries.

The show

A Day Sheet and a Ticket for the Nachtwerk

The tour day sheet the chronology hangs under the date, opened here, gives the venue as NACHTWERK, LANDSBERGER STR. 185, with SUN as support, admission at DM 19,00 / 23,00 and doors at 19:30. It gives the room's capacity as 900, the number both attendance lines carry, and a capacity is not an attendance, so the match confirms nothing and the sheet settles neither line. The ticket it hangs, also opened here, is printed for MÜNCHEN • NACHTWERK, Landsberger Str. 185, for 13 March 1992, with entry at 19.30 and the start at 20.30, and it prints no price.

The Performance

Both documents run "Once," "Even Flow," "Alive," "Why Go," "Black," "Jeremy," "Oceans," "Porch," "Garden," "Deep" and "Release," and begin the encore with "Leash," then "Outshined" and "State of Love and Trust," an improvisation, "Rockin' in the Free World" and "I've Got a Feeling." The chronology prints that improvisation as "Improv," where Five Horizons names it for the city, and neither reading is taken here for the other. The note the two share makes the claim that this is "the only concert where all songs on Ten are played straight through in order", and says the band was in a very "up" mood. It says the singer even noted when the vinyl got flipped and side two began, and that this was the final European show of the tour, with neither the crowd nor the band able to get enough. Of the two chronologies, only the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology adds that Mike ended the show thrashing the drum set.

The Next Step

Frankfurt, the night before, is told in A Special Bass. Neither chronology has an entry for March 14 or 15, and both put the next date at Kaufman Astoria Studios on March 16, for MTV Unplugged; it is told in The Unplugged Taping.

Recording & sound

What the Record Preserves

Nine objects hang under this date on the chronology's page: the day sheet as a PDF with a small image of the same page, and the ticket, all opened here, and six photographs, opened here and not described. No person's name is taken from a markup title, and under its own entry Five Horizons links only its video guide, a removed page, opened here, that lists the date and the town in white type and nothing about the show. Of the house's two folders dated to the night, one holds a Twenty-Ten information file whose heading and note are Five Horizons' word for word, so it too lacks the drum-set sentence, and it is counted with Five Horizons as one source. It calls its sixteen-track recording, which it says was digitized on November 4, 1999, complete according to Five Horizons' setlist and information, a claim about the recording, not the concert, and the other folder holds a playlist of sixteen entries, numbered in two parts. Munich comes down to a figure each chronology prints in its own form, a day sheet whose capacity settles neither, a note the two share but for its last sentence, and an improvisation that of the two chronologies only Five Horizons names.
