Footsteps, Introduced
The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology puts 850 in the Ventura Theater and marks the night sold out, while Five Horizons prints no attendance and brackets 80m after its heading without stating what it measures. Both notes carry the singer's introduction to "Footsteps," and of the two chronologies only Five Horizons prints "My Generation," on an encore line after its set.

On Tuesday, May 12, 1992, Pearl Jam played the Ventura Theater in Ventura, which both chronologies head by that name. Of the two chronologies, only the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology prints an attendance, 850, and it marks the night sold out; Five Horizons and the house's information file print none. Both name Tribe After Tribe, the chronology on its opening act line and Five Horizons on its support act line. Five Horizons brackets 80m after its heading without stating what it measures, and the house file's heading repeats it. Both notes carry the singer's spoken introduction to "Footsteps," which the chronology prints as a second encore and Five Horizons as the last entry of its set line; the house file's note repeats Five Horizons'.
The show
Seventeen Images Under One Date
Both headings give the room as Ventura Theater in Ventura, CA, the chronology adding USA; neither chronology, nor the house's file, prints a soundcheck or a capacity for the room. Seventeen images hang under this date on the chronology's page, each with a markup title that names one or more people before a credit: the singer alone in nine, one of three other members of the band alone in five, and the singer with one or two of those members in three.
The Performance
Both chronologies run "Wash," "Once," "Even Flow," "State of Love and Trust," "Alive," "Black," "Deep," "Jeremy" and "Why Go," then an improvisation, "Porch," "Suggestion," "Garden," "Rockin' in the Free World" and "Footsteps." The chronology ends its set at "Porch," prints "Suggestion" in parentheses at the head of a first encore with "Garden" and "Rockin' in the Free World," and gives "Footsteps" a second encore of its own; Five Horizons runs them all on one set line and joins "Suggestion" to "Garden" with a slash. Between the improvisation and "Porch" Five Horizons prints "Crazy" in parentheses, joins the three with slashes, and attaches a parenthetical label to the improvisation; the chronology's Improv carries neither. After its set line Five Horizons prints an encore line, an entry it follows with its own parenthesis of doubt, then "My Generation," which the chronology's encores do not carry, and after that a line holding only an arrow. Both notes give the singer's introduction to "Footsteps": in substance, that he wrote it long ago to his bandmates' music, which both chronologies gloss as Stone's and Jeff's, that it came after "Alive" and "Once," and that the band had not played it together before the previous night.
The Next Step
Tijuana, two nights before, is told in Iguanas, Spelled Two Ways. Both chronologies put the next show the following night, May 13, at a room the chronology heads Hollywood Palladium, in Los Angeles, and Five Horizons Palladium, in Hollywood; it is told in A Seal Song Before Porch.
Recording & sound
What the Record Preserves
The house holds one text file for the night, a ConcertInfo information file whose heading is Five Horizons' heading, bracketed 80m included, and whose note is Five Horizons' note on "Footsteps," one source with it. It lists thirteen numbered tracks in the order of Five Horizons' set line from "Once" to "Footsteps," with the improvisation spelled Improvization and carrying Five Horizons' label and "Crazy" in one parenthesis, and with "Suggestion" and "Garden" on one track; it has no track for "Wash" or for either entry of Five Horizons' encore line. It says the recording lacks "Wash" by Five Horizons' setlist and information, a claim about the recording, not the concert. It dates the concert's digitizing and clean-up to October 4, 1999; it gives no taping source, equipment, generation or lineage. Ventura comes down to one room both chronologies name alike, an attendance and a sold-out mark that of the two only the first prints, an 80m that Five Horizons brackets without saying what it measures, one list the two divide into set and encores differently, an encore line of Five Horizons' that the chronology does not carry, an introduction to "Footsteps" in both notes, and a house file that follows Five Horizons without "Wash."
