A Snippet of Invisible Sun

· Klockner Gelande · Bremen

Both notes say a snippet of The Police's "Invisible Sun" opened "Rockin' in the Free World," and of the two chronologies only the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology prints the song as an encore entry of its own. Its note says the festival was first planned for Schlossparkbad, and Five Horizons' note says little is known of the set list.

On Sunday, June 14, 1992, Pearl Jam played the Go Bang Festival in Bremen, Germany, which the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology writes with an exclamation mark after Bang and places at the Klöckner-Gelände, where Five Horizons has the Kloecknergelaende im Industriehafen. Neither chronology prints an attendance or names a support or opening act, and Five Horizons brackets 45m after its heading without stating what it measures. The two chronologies' set lines agree item for item but for the eighth, which the chronology prints as "State of Love and Trust" and Five Horizons as State, and of the two only the chronology lists "Invisible Sun" in its encore. Both notes say a snippet of The Police's "Invisible Sun" opened "Rockin' in the Free World."

The show

First Planned for Schlossparkbad

The chronology heads the night Klöckner-Gelände, Bremen, Germany, with the festival's name in parentheses, and Five Horizons heads it with the Go Bang Festival and the Kloecknergelaende im Industriehafen, in Bremen; neither name is settled against the other. The chronology's note says the festival was first planned for Schlossparkbad; Five Horizons' entry does not mention a change of site. Five Horizons' note describes a large event held outdoors on a very hot afternoon, with many artists, naming Bad Religion, Concrete Blonde and Sisters of Mercy among them, as well as Fury in the Slaughterhouse. Neither chronology says which act headlined or in what order the acts played, or mentions a broadcast.

The Performance

The chronology runs "Oceans," "Even Flow," "Why Go," "Jeremy," "Deep," "Alive," "Black," "State of Love and Trust," "Once" and "Porch," then an encore of "Leash," "Invisible Sun," which the list prints in parentheses as an entry of its own, and "Rockin' in the Free World." Five Horizons' set line matches it item for item but prints State at the eighth place, and its encore line gives "Leash" and "Rockin' in the Free World" with no "Invisible Sun" between them. Both notes say a snippet of The Police's "Invisible Sun" opened "Rockin' in the Free World," and Five Horizons' note adds that little is known of the set list.

The Next Step

Berlin, the night before, is told in Up the Light Scaffolding. Both chronologies put the next show the following night, June 15, at the Serenadenhof in Nuremberg; it is told in A Wish for a Smaller Venue.

Recording & sound

What the Record Preserves

Eight objects hang under this date on the chronology's page: an image whose markup title is Poster; an untitled PDF and an untitled image; one titled Backstage pass; one titled Ticket; and three images whose markup titles name the singer before a credit. The Poster image, the PDF and the untitled image also hang under June 13. The chronology prints no remaster series line for the night, and no link into that series hangs under the date. Bremen comes down to one festival headed two ways that the chronology's note says was first planned for Schlossparkbad, set lines that part at the eighth place, an "Invisible Sun" that of the two chronologies only the first lists in its encore and both notes report as a snippet, Five Horizons' word that little is known of the set list, and eight objects under the date, three of them shared with the night before.
