Sun and Showers at Slane Castle
Both notes say members of the band joined Neil Young's band during his set to play "Rockin' in the Free World," and the chronology's adds that people outside were admitted without paying for his set once many of the younger ones had left. The chronology's supporting line names Booker T. & The M.G.'s along with Neil Young, whom Five Horizons pairs with Van Morrison.

On Saturday, July 10, 1993, Pearl Jam played Slane Castle in Slane, which both chronologies head by that name. The chronology's attendance line reads 30 000 and Five Horizons' 30,000, one figure in two forms. Both lists run the same eleven songs in one order, from "Why Go" to "Baba O'Riley," which of the two chronologies only the first sets on an encore line. Of the two chronologies, only the first carries a long note, telling among much else of a crowd surge during "Even Flow" and an apology for never having played in Ireland.
The show
Slane Castle
Both chronologies name the venue Slane Castle and the city Slane, and Five Horizons brackets 52m after its heading without stating what it measures. The chronology's supporting line names Neil Young and, with him, Booker T. & The M.G.'s, and its line of opening acts names five: James, The Blue Angels, 4 Non Blondes, Van Morrison and The Saw Doctors. Five Horizons' supporting line names Van Morrison and Neil Young, and its entry none of the other five acts. Of the two notes, only the chronology's places Neil Young's set after Pearl Jam's: many of the younger ones left after Pearl Jam, it says, and people outside were then admitted free for his set. It also says the audience disagreed with the headliner chosen, without naming that act.
The Performance
Both chronologies run "Why Go," "Jeremy," "Even Flow," "Rearviewmirror," "Elderly Woman," "Once," "Glorified G," "Daughter," "Alive," "Porch" and "Baba O'Riley," the chronology setting the last on an encore line, Five Horizons all eleven on one set line. Of the two chronologies, only the first adds an ellipsis to "Elderly Woman" and a parenthesis after "Daughter" and after "Porch." Its note says a crowd surge near the close of "Even Flow" brought down large numbers of people and the singer halted the song until all were up again, quoting what he told the fans. It quotes how "Glorified G" was introduced and says sun and showers came and went during the set. The singer, it says, added the first lines of a Beatles song to "Daughter," and before "Porch" he apologised, in a remark it quotes, for never having played in Ireland. A parenthesis adds that the band's first European tour of 1992 was meant to open at the SFX in Dublin and did not. The singer then worked lines of a Henry Rollins song into a furious "Porch," venturing into the crowd during it, and after a break before the encore he passed on a greeting from U2; the note quotes how "Baba O'Riley" was introduced. Both notes say members of the band joined Neil Young's band during his set to play "Rockin' in the Free World," the chronology naming Pearl Jam without Dave and Five Horizons some of the PJ guys; Five Horizons' note says nothing more.
The Next Step
Rome, three nights before, is told in Exit in Bono's Fly Mask; neither chronology prints a heading for July 8 or 9. Both chronologies put the next show the following night, July 11, at Finsbury Park in London; it is told in Carrots for the Crowd.
Recording & sound
What the Record Preserves
Twenty objects hang with the night's entry on the chronology's page: images whose markup titles are Ad, Setlist and Ticket, the second before a credit, and seventeen whose titles name the band or its members, two with Neil Young among the names, each before a credit. Who is pictured is the chronology's identification in its markup. The house holds one text file for the night, a ConcertInfo information file. Its first line is Five Horizons' heading without the 52m, it carries no note, and its eleven numbered items follow Five Horizons' list, with no encore mark and none of the chronology's parentheses. It calls the recording complete but for the slightly cut end of "Porch," measured against Five Horizons' setlist and information, a claim about the recording, not the concert. It dates the concert's digitizing and clean-up to 11/18/99. Slane comes down to one castle, one attendance in two forms, a bill set out two ways, eleven songs in one order, a guest spot in Neil Young's set that both notes tell, twenty objects and one house information file.
