Tremor Christ Premiered at the Aladdin

· Aladdin Theater · Las Vegas

The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's note says "Tremor Christ" came with no introduction and drew polite applause, and that "Daughter" carried three tags tied to the Beatles or John Lennon. Five Horizons heads its second encore Green River reunion, and both notes put an impersonator of Elvis on "My Way."

On Tuesday, November 30, 1993, Pearl Jam played the Aladdin in Las Vegas, which the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology heads as the Aladdin Theatre and Five Horizons and the house's information file as the Aladdin Theater. The chronology's attendance line reads 7 000 (sold out) and Five Horizons' 7,000; the chronology's opening acts are Mudhoney and Urge Overkill, and Five Horizons' support act is Mudhoney. Both chronologies give the same thirteen entries from "Even Flow" to "Alive" and first encore of four, and each ends its second encore with "My Way." Both notes say "Tremor Christ" had its premiere that night and tell of guests from Mudhoney and Urge Overkill and an Elvis impersonator on "My Way."

The show

Theatre or Theater

Five Horizons brackets 90m after its heading without stating what it measures, and the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's heading carries no figure. Both notes say the Sands Hotel was the show's first booking, and the chronology's note sets the night on a first visit to Nevada by the band. Neither chronology's entry prints a capacity, a show time or a ticket price. Of the two chronologies, only the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology marks the show sold out.

The Performance

The chronology's setlist runs thirteen entries from "Even Flow," "Once," "Deep" and "Jeremy" to "Blood" and "Alive," and Five Horizons' set line gives the same thirteen in order. At the sixth, both join "Daughter" by slashes to "Instant Karma" and "Across The Universe," each in parentheses. Both first encores hold "Rearviewmirror," "Whipping," "Leash" and "Porch," the last joined by a slash to a label in parentheses. The chronology's second encore line names Jeff, Stone and three guests before "Swallow My Pride," "Jazz Odyssey" in parentheses and "Ain't Nothin' To Do," then the singer and a second performer before "My Way." Five Horizons heads its second encore line Green River reunion and lists "Swallow My Pride," "Ain't Nothing to Do" and "My Way," naming no players. The chronology's note says "Daughter" carried three tags tied to the Beatles or John Lennon and closed with the singer whispering. It says "Tremor Christ" had its premiere with no introduction, a drum opening a little changed from the album's and rearranged lyrics with some words invented, and drew polite applause. It says that as the encore began Stone introduced Chuck Treece, Urge Overkill's drummer on the tour, and Mudhoney's Steve Turner with Mark Arm, quoting his announcement. Five Horizons' notes call it nearly a Green River reunion, naming Steve Turner and, where the chronology has Mark Arm, Mark McLaughlin, both of Mudhoney, with Chuck Treece, Urge Overkill's drummer. The chronology says an Elvis impersonator joined the singer for "My Way," which it calls a Paul Anka standard, and Five Horizons says one helped with the vocals. The chronology puts "Swallow My Pride" with "My Way" on the band's fourth holiday single for its fan club, and Five Horizons says both were recorded for release among the fan club singles of '95.

The Next Step

Boulder, three nights earlier, is told in Mark Arm Joins In at Balch Fieldhouse. Both chronologies put the next show the following night, December 1, again at the Aladdin; it is told in Garden and Alone by Request.

Recording & sound

What the Record Preserves

The chronology's entry prints no remaster series line, and Five Horizons' ends with a line reading tour poster. Four objects hang with the night's entry on the chronology's page: an image whose markup title is Setlist, before a credit, one titled Ticket, one titled Ticket (signed) and one titled Marquee. The house holds one text file for the night, a ConcertInfo information file. Its heading and notes are Five Horizons' in the same words, one source with them, and its twenty numbered labels follow Five Horizons' set and encore lines in order. It calls the recording complete by Five Horizons' setlist and information, a claim about the recording, not the concert, and it dates the concert's digitizing and clean-up to 3/23/00. Las Vegas comes down to a theatre spelt two ways, a sold-out mark in one chronology, two opening acts against one support act, a second encore told two ways, a premiere and an impersonator in both notes, four objects and an information file that repeats Five Horizons.
