Burnt Cork at the Fox
Both notes say the singer's legs became so tangled in the microphone cord that Jeff and Stone had to free him, and that during "Porch" he marked his bandmates' faces with a burnt cork. An Internet Archive item that the house holds in two copies names twenty-one MP3 files for the night, and their title fields follow the chronology's twenty entries, with one label between "Even Flow" and "Why Go" where neither chronology prints an entry.

On Monday, March 14, 1994, Pearl Jam played the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, as the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology spells it, which Five Horizons heads as the Fox Theater. The chronology's attendance line reads 4 500 (sold out), where Five Horizons prints none, and both name The Frogs with Grant Lee Buffalo, on the chronology's opening acts line and Five Horizons' support act line. Each lists twenty entries from "Release" to "Porch" over a set line and an encore line, in the same order, and the twelfth, which the chronology prints as Improv, Five Horizons prints as jam. Both notes give one account of the night, much of it in the same words.
The show
Theatre or Theater
Five Horizons brackets 100m after its heading without stating what it measures, and the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's heading carries no figure. Neither chronology's entry prints a capacity, a show time or a ticket price.
The Performance
The chronology's setlist runs sixteen entries, opening with "Release," "Go" and "Animal," giving Improv as the eighth and the twelfth, and closing with "State Of Love And Trust," "Black" and "Alive." Its tenth joins "Daughter" by slashes to "Beginning To See the Light" in parentheses and to a label. Five Horizons' set line has the same sixteen in order, capitals aside, with that label spelt another way and with improv at the eighth place and jam at the twelfth. Both encore lines hold "Not For You," "Rearviewmirror," "Elderly Woman" and "Porch," the chronology following "Elderly Woman" with three dots, so that each list runs to twenty entries. Neither chronology prints a soundcheck line. Both notes say the singer joined The Frogs for "I Only Play For Money" in their own set. The chronology says the improv after "Jeremy" was sung over very quiet playing and closed on lyrics from a Beatles single it names and calls somewhat obscure; Five Horizons says the same without placing the improv. Both say the singer's legs became so tangled in the microphone cord that Jeff and Stone had to free him, and that he introduced "Blood" in words they quote. They say the piece after "Blood" was instrumental, that "Breath" was very different and ended in a jam they call cool, and that during "Porch" the singer marked his bandmates' faces with a burnt cork.
The Next Step
Chicago, the night before, at the New Regal Theater, is told in A Skateboard Encore at the New Regal. Both chronologies put the next show the following night, March 15, again at the Fox Theatre, which Five Horizons spells Fox Theater; it is told in Gold Bat Wings at the Fox.
Recording & sound
What the Record Preserves
The chronology prints no remaster series line for the night, and Five Horizons closes its entry with two lines that name "Breath" and, in parentheses, Song X for August 98. One object hangs with the night's entry on the chronology's page, an image whose markup title is Ticket. The house holds four text files for the night in two folders: two identical copies each of an Internet Archive item's metadata file and its files list. The metadata file gives the item's creator as Pearl Jam and its date as 1994-03-14, and its title names the band, the word Bootleg, the date and the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri; its publication and addition dates both read 2014-06-07. The files list names sixty-eight files, twenty-one of them original MP3 files numbered 1-01 to 1-21. Their title fields follow the chronology's twenty entries in its order, "Daughter" carrying the same two parts the chronology joins to it and each Improv as Improv, save for one label between "Even Flow" and "Why Go," where neither chronology prints an entry. Neither file names a source, a lineage, equipment or a recordist. March 14 in St. Louis comes down to one theatre spelt two ways, a sold-out attendance that Five Horizons does not print, the same two acts in both, twenty entries that part at the twelfth, one account in both notes, one object titled Ticket and one Internet Archive item in two copies.
