The Tour's Last Show in Auckland

· Supertop · Auckland

Neil and Tim Finn joined the band for "History Never Repeats" and then "I Got You," the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's note says. Five Horizons' one set line lists a "Yellow Ledbetter" that none of the chronology's three lists carries.

On Saturday, March 25, 1995, Pearl Jam played in Auckland, New Zealand, at the venue that the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology heads as the Mt Smart Supertop and Five Horizons as the Mt. Smart Super Top. The chronology's entry prints no attendance line, and Five Horizons' reads 13,000. Both chronologies name Dead Flowers, as opening act in the chronology and as support act in Five Horizons. The chronology's setlist runs twenty entries from "Release" to "Porch," and its two encores hold three and two more, twenty-five entries in all. Five Horizons prints no encore line and sets twenty-six entries on one set line. The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology calls the night the last show of the tour that took in Southeast Asia and Australia as well as New Zealand.

The show

The Same Venue, the Next Night

As on the night before, the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology heads the venue as the Mt Smart Supertop and Five Horizons as the Mt. Smart Super Top, both in Auckland, New Zealand. Five Horizons brackets 120m after its heading without stating what it measures, and the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's heading carries no figure. Five Horizons gives an attendance of 13,000 and marks no status, and the chronology's entry has no attendance line. Neither chronology's entry gives a capacity, a door or stage time, a ticket price, a promoter, or the way tickets were sold.

The Performance

The chronology's setlist runs twenty entries: "Release," "Go," "Last Exit," "Spin The Black Circle," "Tremor Christ," "Not For You," "Rearviewmirror," "Elderly Woman," which it follows with three dots, "Animal," "Why Go," "Jeremy," "Glorified G," "Daughter," joined by a slash to a label, then "State Of Love And Trust," "Garden," "Corduroy," "Lukin," "Better Man," "Alive," and "Porch." The chronology's first encore line holds "Blood," "Black," and "Immortality," and its second "History Never Repeats" and "I Got You," twenty-five entries in all. Five Horizons sets all twenty-six of its entries on its one set line, with no encore line. Its twenty-fourth entry, between "Immortality" and "History Never Repeats," is "Yellow Ledbetter," which the chronology's three lists do not carry. The chronology's note says Neil and Tim Finn joined the band for two songs, "History Never Repeats" and then "I Got You."

The Next Step

Auckland, the night before, at the same venue, is told in Neil and Tim Finn in Auckland.

Recording & sound

What the Record Preserves

Neither chronology's entry names a recording of the night. No object hangs under the night's heading on the chronology's page. The house holds no text file for the night. March 25 in Auckland comes down, in these documents, to the same venue written two ways, 120m that Five Horizons brackets without saying what it measures, an attendance of 13,000 in Five Horizons and none in the chronology's entry, Dead Flowers on both bill lines, twenty-five entries against twenty-six, a "Yellow Ledbetter" that of the two chronologies only Five Horizons lists, Neil and Tim Finn's two songs and the end of the tour by the chronology's note, and no object or house file for the night.
