A Torrential Downpour at Downing Stadium
Five Horizons' note for the night speaks of a torrential downpour. Both notes say a guest jammed during "Even Flow" and that Eddie embraced the guest when the song was over.

On Saturday, September 28, 1996, Pearl Jam played Downing Stadium on Randall's Island in New York, the stadium both chronologies name in their headings. The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology gives an attendance of 33 000 and marks the show sold out, and Five Horizons gives 30,000 with no status. The chronology's opening acts line names Ben Harper, then Fastbacks, and Five Horizons' support act line names Ben Harper, then The Fastbacks. The chronology prints eighteen entries in its setlist and six in its encore, twenty-four in all, and Five Horizons gives the same counts on its set line and on a line it calls enc 1.
The show
Downing Stadium on Randall's Island
Both chronologies head the night at Downing Stadium on Randall's Island, Five Horizons in New York, NY, and the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology in New York City, NY, with USA added to the place. Five Horizons brackets 115m after its heading without stating what it measures, and the chronology's heading carries no figure. Five Horizons' note speaks of the torrential downpour.
The Performance
The chronology's setlist runs "Last Exit," "Hail Hail," "Animal," "Spin The Black Circle," "Red Mosquito," "In My Tree," "Lukin," "Not For You," "Better Man," "Corduroy," "Jeremy," "Dissident," "State Of Love And Trust," "Black," "Habit," "Rearviewmirror," "Alive," and "Blood." Its encore holds "Who You Are," "Even Flow," "Daughter," "Whipping," "Leaving Here," and "Indifference." Five Horizons gives the same eighteen entries in the chronology's order on its set line and the same six on its enc 1 line. Both notes say a guest jammed during "Even Flow," with Pearl Jam in the chronology's words and with Mike in Five Horizons', and that Eddie embraced the guest and shook hands when the song was over. Both notes say that "Whipping" stopped briefly, partway through, because someone seemed to be, in both notes' words, hurt or fighting. The chronology's note says the song picked up again at the point where it had stopped. The chronology's note says that around "Indifference" Eddie remarked that, judging by the band's mail, what its members read, and the people they meet, many people seemed to be finding one another through the band's music.
The Next Step
Augusta, two days earlier, is told in Eddie Solo in Augusta. Both chronologies put the next show the following night, September 29, at the same stadium; it is told in Stone Sings Mankind at Downing Stadium.

What the Record Preserves
Under the night's heading the chronology's page hangs an image whose markup title reads Ad, one whose markup title reads Setlist, six more images, and a link to a PDF file. Downing Stadium on September 28 comes down to one stadium that both chronologies name alike, 115m that Five Horizons brackets without saying what it measures, an attendance of 33 000 in the chronology and 30,000 in Five Horizons, two acts on both bill lines, twenty-four entries in each chronology, a torrential downpour in Five Horizons' note, a guest in "Even Flow" in both notes, and nine objects under the date.
