A Fast Satan's Bed in Fort Lauderdale
Both notes say that "Satan's Bed," last played on September 14, 1995, came in a fast version this time, by request. The chronology's note says that Ben Harper and Fastbacks lent a hand on "Rockin' In The Free World," and Five Horizons' note says that the two acts lent the band a hand.

On Monday, October 7, 1996, Pearl Jam played in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at the venue that the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology heads as Fort Lauderdale Stadium; Five Horizons' heading gives the same name with its first word shortened to Ft. The chronology gives an attendance of 25 000 and marks the show sold out, and Five Horizons' attendance line gives 25,000 tickets sold and says that the venue holds 8,000. The chronology's opening acts line names Ben Harper, then Fastbacks, and Five Horizons' support act line names The Fastbacks. The chronology prints twenty entries in its setlist, six in a first encore and two in a second, twenty-eight in all, and Five Horizons gives the same counts on its set and two encore lines.

The Performance
The chronology's setlist runs "Sometimes," "Last Exit," "Animal," "Go," "Hail Hail," "Dissident," "In My Tree," "Corduroy," "Better Man," "Lukin," "Not For You," "Jeremy," "Black," "State Of Love And Trust," "Satan's Bed," "Habit," "Rearviewmirror," "Immortality," "Alive," and "Porch." The chronology's first encore holds "Present Tense," "Even Flow," "Blood," "Daughter," "I Got Id," and "Leaving Here," and its second holds "Rockin' In The Free World" and "Yellow Ledbetter." Five Horizons' set line gives twenty entries in the chronology's order, its first encore line six, and its second encore line two. The chronology's note says that before "Go" Eddie greeted the people at the front and the people at the back. Both notes say that near the close of "Dissident" Eddie, Ed in Five Horizons' note, asked for help when there was trouble in the pit. Both notes say that "Satan's Bed," last played on September 14, 1995, came in a fast version this time, by request. Both notes say that Eddie changed the lyrics of "Habit." Both notes say that during "Porch" Eddie climbed the left light tower and did not jump, and that he said he had wanted a better view of the crowd. The chronology's note says that this "Porch" ran 12 minutes and closed a strong first set, in which the note names "Satan's Bed" and "In My Tree" as the high points. Both notes say that a fan reached the stage during "Daughter" and that Eddie got up on the fan's shoulders for what followed, which the chronology's note calls tags the crowd had asked for and Five Horizons' note an outro and a sing-along. The chronology's note calls a late "I Got Id" strong and says that it came ahead of "Leaving Here" and then "Rockin' In The Free World," on which Ben Harper and Fastbacks lent a hand. Five Horizons' note says that the two acts lent the band a hand, and it names them as Ben Harper and as The Fastbacks. The chronology's note ends with Eddie saying goodbye to the crowd in Florida before "Yellow Ledbetter."

Recording & sound
What the Record Preserves
The chronology's entry ends with a remaster series line that names the band, the date, and Fort Lauderdale and carries the label info-file. Five Horizons ends its entry with a line that reads poster. Under the night's heading the chronology's page hangs seven images, three links to PDF files, and two links into its remaster series, one to a zip file and one to a text file. The house holds two files for the night: the remaster series' information file and its fingerprint list. The information file opens with three lines: the band, the date, and a venue line that ends with Fort Lauderdale, FL, as the file prints that line. Its source line gives a source that starts with Sonic Studios and has FLAC as its last word, and FLAC is both the first and the last word of its lineage line. Its notes, the file's own account of how the recording was handled, say that swings in the volume were evened out, that the volume was raised, and that the recording has some noise from the microphones. Its thirty-one numbered labels fall into three groups: an Intro label and twenty labels from "Sometimes" to "Porch" in the chronology's setlist order, then an Encore Break label and six from "Present Tense" to "Leaving Here," then a second Encore Break label and two, "Rockin' in the Free World" and "Yellow Ledbetter." The fingerprint list gives each of thirty-one FLAC file names a value, the names following the labels. Fort Lauderdale comes down to one stadium under a full and a shortened form of its name, 142 min that Five Horizons brackets without saying what it measures, an attendance of 25 000 in the chronology and 25,000 tickets sold in Five Horizons, two acts on the chronology's bill line and one on Five Horizons', twenty-eight entries in each chronology, a fast "Satan's Bed" by request in both notes, twelve objects under the date, and two house files.
