Sundown at Shoreline

· Shoreline · Mountain View

Both notes say that the band came on at sundown and call that very nice, and that fans at the front had a banner on which PORCH was painted. They say that this "Porch" was very unusual, in an arrangement they call sort of funky/reggae, and they call "Around The Bend" wonderful.

On Sunday, October 20, 1996, Pearl Jam played a second night at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, and both chronologies' headings again mark the night as the Bridge School Benefit and as acoustic. The chronology again gives an attendance of 20 000 and marks the show sold out. The chronology prints nine entries in its setlist, and Five Horizons gives nine on its set line.

The show

A Second Night at Shoreline

Five Horizons brackets 44m after its heading without stating what it measures.

The Performance

The chronology's setlist runs "Sometimes," "Elderly Woman," which it follows with three dots, "Corduroy," "Off He Goes," "Nothingman," "Daughter," "Footsteps," "Porch," and "Around The Bend." Five Horizons' set line gives nine entries in the chronology's order. Both notes say that the band came on at sundown and call that very nice, and that fans at the front on the left had a large banner on which PORCH was painted in big letters. Both notes say that "Corduroy" was again the new version of the night before, and that this "Porch" was very unusual, in an arrangement they call sort of funky/reggae. Both notes call "Around The Bend" wonderful and say that the band came on and went off very quickly.

The Next Step

The first Bridge School Benefit night, the night before at the same amphitheatre, is told in Brendan O'Brien on Keyboards at Shoreline. Cork, Ireland, four days later, is told in Still at Home in Ireland.

Recording & sound

What the Record Preserves

The chronology's entry ends with a remaster series line that names the band, the date, the Bridge School Benefit, and v2 in parentheses, and carries the code sbd, the mark A+, and the label info-file. Five Horizons ends its entry with link lines that read Bridge Benefit program and Bridge Benefit button, and its last line reads setlist scan. Under the night's heading the chronology's page hangs an image whose markup title reads Setlist, one whose markup title reads Ticket, and two links into its remaster series, one to a zip file and one to a text file. The house holds two files for the night: the remaster series' information file and its fingerprint list. The information file opens with four lines: the band, the date, Bridge School Benefit Concert, and a venue line that reads Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountainview, CA, the place written as one word. Under a line that reads Sources, its line a has SHN as its last word. Its notes, the file's own account of how the recording was handled, say that a fault in the volume level as "Elderly Woman" begins was fixed and that loud claps were taken out through the set. Its ten numbered labels give an Intro label and then nine from "Sometimes" to "Around the Bend" in the chronology's setlist order. The fingerprint list gives each of ten FLAC file names a value, the names following the labels. Shoreline on October 20 comes down to a second acoustic Bridge School Benefit night in both headings, 44m that Five Horizons brackets without saying what it measures, an attendance of 20 000 in the chronology, nine set entries in each, a start at sundown and a very unusual "Porch" in both notes, and two house files.
