A Strap Made in Zurich
Both notes say that the strap of the singer's guitar broke shortly after "Better Man" began, and that he could see from the strap that it had been made in Zurich. They say that later, after "Jeremy," the show stopped for a moment while the band tried to make out what the crowd was calling.

On Saturday, November 9, 1996, Pearl Jam played in Zurich, Switzerland, at the venue that the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology heads as the Hallenstadion and Five Horizons as the Hallenstadion Zurich. Five Horizons' attendance line gives 6,000, the chronology's opening act line names Fastbacks, and Five Horizons' support act line names The Fastbacks. The chronology prints twenty-one entries in its setlist and six in its encore, and Five Horizons twenty-one on its set line and five on a line it calls enc.
The show
The Hallenstadion
Both headings give the place as Zurich, Switzerland. Five Horizons brackets 116m after its heading without stating what it measures.
The Performance
The chronology's soundcheck line gives "Black Red Yellow," "Animal," "Smile," "Nothingman," "Black Red Yellow," "Porch," "Not For You," "Lukin," and "Rearviewmirror," and Five Horizons' soundcheck line gives the same nine entries in the same order. The chronology's setlist runs "Animal," "Hail Hail," "Once," "Last Exit," "Spin The Black Circle," "Dissident," "Who You Are," "Whipping," "Corduroy," "Better Man," "Rearviewmirror," "Sometimes," "Even Flow," "Glorified G," "Daughter," "Go," "Jeremy," "Off He Goes," "State Of Love And Trust," "Lukin," and "Alive." The chronology's encore holds "Not For You," "I Got Id," "Black," "Leaving Here," "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," and "Rockin' In The Free World." Five Horizons' set line gives the same twenty-one entries in the same order, and its encore line gives five entries. Both notes say that shortly after "Better Man" began, the strap of the singer's guitar broke and the song stopped, that he saw on the strap that it had been made in Zurich, and that the band then started the song again. Both notes say that after "Jeremy" the show stopped for a moment while the band tried to make out what the crowd was calling, and that "Off He Goes" came next and then "State Of Love And Trust," in whose last chorus the singer changed some words. Both notes say that the start of "Leaving Here" was rough.

What the Record Preserves
Five Horizons ends its entry with a line that reads poster. Under the night's heading the chronology's page hangs an image whose markup title reads Setlist, one whose markup title reads Ticket, and two more images. Zurich comes down to one hall that the two headings name in a shorter and a longer form, 116m that Five Horizons brackets without saying what it measures, an attendance of 6,000 in Five Horizons, one act on both bill lines, nine soundcheck entries and twenty-one set entries in each chronology, six encore entries in the chronology and five in Five Horizons, both notes' account of a broken guitar strap made in Zurich, and four objects under the date.
