Sometimes Opens the Set at Oakland Stadium

· Alameda County Coliseum · Oakland

The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's setlist for the November 19 show at Oakland Stadium opens with "Sometimes." Among the objects under the night's heading on the chronology's page are images whose markup titles read Setlist, Ticket, and Pearl Jam.

On Wednesday, November 19, 1997, Pearl Jam played Oakland Stadium in Oakland, a venue both chronologies name alike. Both chronologies print a supporting line that names The Rolling Stones.

The show

The Stadium Once More

Both headings give the place as Oakland, CA, and the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's heading adds USA to it. Five Horizons brackets 64m after its heading without stating what it measures. The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology gives an attendance of 50 000+.

The Performance

The chronology's setlist runs "Sometimes," "Hail Hail," "Animal," "Do The Evolution," "Dissident," "Even Flow," "Given To Fly," "Better Man," "Off He Goes," "Corduroy," "Go," "Black," and "Alive." Both notes say the band was apparently really on again, that Eddie played maracas once more, this time during "Animal," and call "Even Flow" a long, drawn-out jam, played with every member of the band turned toward Jack and away from the audience. The chronology's note says that Eddie lost his place during "Alive," then dumped wine on some of the audience and ran across the Stones' stage, end to end, going left to right. Both notes call one song awesome and say it ended with a solo by Mike on his own, which the others in the band applauded when he was done. Both notes say Stone wore his glasses that night, which they call a brave move. The chronology's note says that later Eddie joined the Stones for a duet, that the Stones made a total mess of it, and that at the end Eddie gave Mick, Ronnie, and Keith a kiss on the cheek.

The Next Step

Oakland, the night before, at the same stadium, is told in Immortality at Oakland Stadium. Maui, 93 days later, is told in A 10pm Curfew in Maui.

What the Record Preserves

The objects the chronology's page hangs under the night's heading include an image whose markup title reads Setlist, one whose markup title reads Ticket, one whose markup title reads Pearl Jam, and two more images. Oakland Stadium on November 19 comes down to one venue named alike, 64m that Five Horizons brackets without saying what it measures, The Rolling Stones on both supporting lines, a setlist in the chronology that opens with "Sometimes," and the objects under the date.
