A Near-Perfect Show in Auckland
Both notes call the closing "Yellow Ledbetter" flawless and extended, and the show near perfect. The two chronologies give the night's attendance as 20 000 and 20,000.

On Saturday, February 28, 1998, Pearl Jam played Ericsson Stadium in Auckland, a venue both chronologies name alike. Shudder to Think is the act on the chronology's opening act line and on Five Horizons' support act line. Both chronologies print a soundcheck of seven titles and an encore of three in one order.
The show
In Auckland
The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology gives an attendance of 20 000, and Five Horizons gives 20,000.
The Performance
The chronology's soundcheck runs "Sometimes," "Not For You," "All Those Yesterdays," "Tremor Christ," "In My Tree," "Habit," and "Given To Fly," and Five Horizons' soundcheck line gives the same seven titles in the same order. The chronology's setlist runs "Sometimes," "Hail Hail," "Brain Of J.," "Animal," "Faithfull," "Even Flow," "Wishlist," "Corduroy," "Jeremy," "Daughter," "MFC," "Habit," "Given To Fly," "State Of Love And Trust," "Off He Goes," "Black," and "Alive," and Five Horizons prints a set line. The chronology's encore holds "Do The Evolution," "Better Man," and "Yellow Ledbetter," and Five Horizons' encore line gives the same three in the same order.
Both notes say the opener came in on tribal drums. The chronology's note says that, once "Brain Of J." had started, Eddie stopped it to check on a crowd the note calls hectic, and that the band then finished the song from where they had stopped. Five Horizons' note says Ed paused more than once to see to a crowd it also calls hectic. Both notes say "Habit" had a new start. As Mike ended his solo in "Alive," both notes say, Eddie, Ed in Five Horizons' note, climbed high up the scaffolding and waved to the audience. Both notes say Eddie recalled nearly drowning on his last trip to New Zealand and said he now surfs in a lifejacket, and that he put on a yellow lifejacket Stone passed to him onstage. "Yellow Ledbetter," flawless and extended, both notes say, closed a show they call near perfect.
The Next Step
Wellington, two days earlier, is told in A Skateboard at the Encore in Wellington. Both chronologies put the next show two days later, March 2, at Melbourne Park in Melbourne; it is told in Shudder to Think's Singer Helps Out in Melbourne.

What the Record Preserves
The objects the chronology's page hangs under the night's heading include two images. Auckland comes down to Ericsson Stadium in both headings, an attendance of 20 000 in the chronology and 20,000 in Five Horizons, Shudder to Think on both bill lines, a soundcheck of seven and an encore of three in each chronology, a "Yellow Ledbetter" both notes call flawless, and the objects under the date.
