On Thursday, March 12, 1998, Pearl Jam played in Sydney, at a venue that the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology heads as the Sydney Entertainment Centre and Five Horizons as the Entertainment Centre. The chronology's attendance line reads 12 000, marked sold out, and Five Horizons' reads 12,000. Shudder to Think stands on both bill lines, as the chronology's opening act and as Five Horizons' support act. Both chronologies give the same first encore, from "Go" to "Better Man."

The show

Two Headings in Sydney

Five Horizons brackets 112m after its heading without stating what it measures. Its heading gives the date as 03/12/98, and the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's gives March 12, 1998, each with Sydney, Australia, as the place.

The Performance

The chronology's setlist runs from "Sometimes" to "Rearviewmirror," and its entries include, in order, "Do The Evolution," "Animal," "Hail Hail," "Dissident," "Faithfull," "Even Flow," "Corduroy," "MFC," "Habit," "Daughter," "Nothingman," "Given To Fly," "Spin The Black Circle," "Wishlist" and "Whipping." Five Horizons gives its main set on a set line. Both chronologies give the same first encore in the same order: "Go," "State of Love and Trust," "Brain of J" and "Better Man." Both then give a second encore of "Throw Your Arms Around Me" and "Alive."

The Next Step

The night before, March 11, at the same venue, is told in Jack's Drum Solo in Sydney. Brisbane, two nights later, on March 14, is told in Breakdancing in Brisbane.

What the Record Preserves

Five Horizons' entry closes with two short lines that read as link labels of its page: review, then tour poster. The objects the chronology's page hangs under the night's heading include two images. March 12 in Sydney comes down to one venue in two forms, a bracketed figure, the chronology's 12 000 marked sold out and Five Horizons' 12,000, one act on both bill lines, a setlist in the chronology from "Sometimes" to "Rearviewmirror," the same first encore in both chronologies, a second that ends with "Alive," two closing link labels and two images among the objects.
