Matt Snaps Photos During Cheap Trick's Set
Both chronologies' notes say that while Cheap Trick performed, Matt snapped photos and was freaking out. The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology prints an attendance of 19 000 and marks the show sold out, and Five Horizons prints 21,273.

On Thursday, August 20, 1998, Pearl Jam played the Molson Centre in Montreal, which the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology places in QC, Canada, and Five Horizons in Quebec. Both chronologies name Cheap Trick, the chronology on its opening act line and Five Horizons on its support act line. Both set lines open with "Sometimes" and "Corduroy" and close with "Present Tense," "State Of Love And Trust" and "Do The Evolution," and both first encores end with "Baba O'Riley."
The show
QC or Quebec
The two headings give the night as August 20, 1998, the Molson Centre and Montreal, QC, Canada, in the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology, and as 08/20/98, the Molson Centre and Montreal, Quebec, in Five Horizons. Five Horizons brackets 116m after its heading without stating what it measures. The chronology's attendance line prints 19 000 and marks the show sold out, and Five Horizons' prints 21,273. While Cheap Trick performed, both notes say, Matt snapped photos and was freaking out, and Stone, Jeff and Mike were on Mike's side, freaking out majorly too.
The Performance
Both soundcheck lines give six entries in one order, which the chronology prints as "Hard To Imagine," "Footsteps," "Animal," "State Of Love And Trust," "Present Tense" and "Last Kiss." The chronology's setlist gives, in order, "Sometimes," "Corduroy," "Animal," "Hail Hail," "Brain Of J.," "Red Mosquito," "Given To Fly," "Even Flow," "Not For You," "Wishlist," "Lukin," "Jeremy," "Daughter," "Present Tense," "State Of Love And Trust" and "Do The Evolution," and Five Horizons' set line gives the same titles in the same order. The chronology's first encore gives "Hard To Imagine," "Better Man," "Alive," "Black," "Leaving Here" and "Baba O'Riley," and Five Horizons' gives the same entries in the same order. Each second encore holds "Yellow Ledbetter."
Five Horizons' note says Stone played a cool, bluesy solo in "Not for You." In "Present Tense," it says, Mike did laps of the stage. As "Alive" ended, it says, Ed grabbed Mike. As "Black" ended, the note says, Mike was possessed and flying around, with the whole band watching him, and finally Jeff walked over to congratulate him with a handshake. After "Leaving Here," it says, Ed talked hockey, then spoke again, and the crowd went nuts.
The Next Step
East Lansing, two days earlier, on August 18, is told in Mike Jams with Stone in East Lansing.
Recording & sound
What the Record Preserves
Five objects hang under the night's heading on the chronology's page: four images, among them one whose markup title reads Ticket, and an untitled link to a PDF file. The house holds one text file for the night, a Twenty-Ten information file. The file opens with a heading line naming 08/20/98, the Molson Centre and Montreal, Quebec, and then an attendance line giving 21,273, the figure Five Horizons' attendance line prints. The file also says, as its own statement, that the quality of its sound is not very good. August 20 in Montreal comes down to one venue placed in QC, Canada, and in Quebec, two attendance figures, Cheap Trick on both bills, the same soundcheck and encores in both chronologies, band members freaking out during Cheap Trick's set, a Five Horizons note on Mike's laps and a handshake from Jeff, a house text file and five objects.
