Three Guitar Changes at Madison Square Garden

· Madison Square Garden · New York

Five Horizons' note says the night brought many equipment problems, with Mike switching guitars three times during "Given To Fly" while his solos stayed outstanding. The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology prints an attendance of 20 000 and marks the show sold out.

On Thursday, September 10, 1998, Pearl Jam played Madison Square Garden in New York, the venue both chronologies name in their headings. Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals stand on the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's opening act line, and Ben Harper on Five Horizons' support act line. Both set lines open with "Long Road" and close with "Alive," and each second encore holds "Soldier Of Love."

The show

Madison Square Garden

The two headings give the night as September 10, 1998, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY, USA, in the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology, and as 09/10/98, at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY, in Five Horizons. Five Horizons brackets 114m after its heading without stating what it measures. The chronology's attendance line prints 20 000 and marks the show sold out.

The Performance

The chronology's setlist includes, in order, "Long Road," "Corduroy," "Brain Of J.," "Last Exit," "Given To Fly," "Animal," "Dissident," "Jeremy," "Daughter," "Even Flow," "In Hiding," "Better Man," "Do The Evolution," "All Those Yesterdays," and "Alive," and Five Horizons' set line includes the same entries in the same order. Both first encore lines include, in order, "Wishlist," "Hail Hail," "Black," and "Elderly Woman." Each second encore holds "Soldier Of Love."

Five Horizons' note says there were many equipment problems that night, and that during "Given To Fly" Mike had to switch guitars three times, though his solos were outstanding. The note says Stone messed up his solo in "All Those Yesterdays." As the band came back for the encore, the note says, fake security guards came out carrying tons of archive boxes; Five Horizons calls what followed a very, very long speech. The note says Mike then played just the very start of "Yellow Ledbetter" before stopping, and the band played "Soldier Of Love" in its place. In a bracketed update on a campaign of Breath signs, Five Horizons says the signs drew notice because they stretched through every level, and that Ed praised the fans' organization.

The Next Step

September 8, two days earlier, is told in Hundreds of BREATH Signs in East Rutherford. New York, the following night, on September 11, is told in The First Breath Since 1994 in New York.

What the Record Preserves

The objects the chronology's page hangs under the night's heading include an image whose markup title reads Ticket, an untitled image and an untitled link to a PDF file. The house holds one text file for the night, a Twenty-Ten information file. The file opens with Five Horizons' heading for the night. Its song lines follow Five Horizons' set and encore lines for the night in the same order. September 10 at Madison Square Garden comes down to one venue named alike in both headings, an attendance figure in the chronology, Ben Harper's name on both bills, one set in one order in both chronologies, Five Horizons' note on equipment trouble and on Breath signs through every level, a house information file and the objects under the date.
