Grievance at the Ed Sullivan Theater
For the night that both chronologies head with the Ed Sullivan Theater, their set fields carry a single entry, "Grievance," and the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's note gives it as the name of a new song. Both notes say the new song was not "Nothing As It Seems," slated, in their word, as the first single, but what they call a real rocker.

On Wednesday, April 12, 2000, Pearl Jam made a television appearance at the Ed Sullivan Theater, which the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology places in New York City and Five Horizons in New York. Both chronologies' headings name the Late Show in parentheses. Both notes tell of the birthday of the television host and of a new song played raw.
The show
The Host's Birthday
The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's heading gives the night as April 12, 2000, at the Ed Sullivan Theater, with New York City, NY, USA, as the place and a parenthesis naming the Late Show. Five Horizons' heading gives it as 04/12/00, at the Ed Sullivan Theater, with New York, NY, as the place and a parenthesis that names the Late Show. Five Horizons brackets 3m after its heading without stating what it measures. Both notes say that the band appeared on the birthday of the television host and that the host held up the Binaural vinyl, which they call lovely.
The Performance
The Pearl Jam Concert Chronology's setlist field and Five Horizons' set field each carry one entry, "Grievance." Both notes say the band let loose with a new song, which the chronology's note goes on to call "Grievance." Both notes say "Nothing As It Seems" was slated as the first single. Putting the negative in capitals, both notes say the new song was not that one, the one everyone would have suspected; in their words, the new song was a real rocker. Eddie, whom Five Horizons' note calls Ed, played guitar on the song, both notes say, and Mike was extremely animated. The notes say Matt drove the performance, which they call raw. Mike, the notes say, made an effort to smash the guitar, and once the performance was over, Eddie gave the guitar to the television host. At their close, both notes say that anyone worried about the new album is likely to think again after this performance. In square brackets, Five Horizons' note also offers an aside to those who care: that Stone now wears cargo pants, that Matt sports orange, and that Jeff has what it calls the evil goat hat.

What the Record Preserves
The chronology's page hangs one object under the night's heading, an untitled embed. April 12 at the Ed Sullivan Theater comes down to one theater in both headings, each with the Late Show in parentheses, 3m that Five Horizons brackets without saying what it measures, one entry in both set fields, notes that tell alike of the host's birthday and of a raw performance of a new song, and one untitled embed under the date.
